Waste Reduction Week 2005

Banff Park Lodge Resort Hotel and Conference Centre is the first independent hotel to be awarded a four Green-Leaf eco-rating by the Hotel Association of Canada, which indicates “national industry leadership in terms of eco-efficiency.” It is also the first commercial accommodation facility in Canada to receive the “Eco-Logo” designation, one of the world's most established environmental labeling initiatives helping consumers identify products and services that are less harmful to the environment. The Lodge:

• Recycles paper, cardboard, glass, toilet paper roll ends, shampoo bottles and soap.
• Replaces bedsheets and towels after two or three days, not everyday.
• Switched to air-cooled industrial fridges from water-cooled motors.
• Plans to replace its traditional air conditioning system with a new one that will use groundwater to cool the hotel.
• Uses long-life light bulbs.
