FAQ-Air-Air Quality Testing

Who do we contact to test our indoor air quality?

For inquiries regarding residential indoor air quality, and requests for testing should be directed to private companies/laboratories. Under certain circumstances, Alberta Health Services may be able to provide some advice, guidance and direction.

Contact Alberta Health Services (AHS) for concerns that relate to public health (e.g. airborne diseases). Find AHS contact information at its website.

For workplace-type air quality issues (e.g. zonolite insulation and asbestos, mould, etc.) call the Workplace Health and Safety Contact Centre at 1-866-415-8690 or visit their website.

Who do we contact for outdoor air quality testing?

Any complaints or requests for outdoor air quality testing should be directed to the Alberta Environment Emergency Response Centre at 1-800-222-6514. Investigators are on call to respond to emergency and non-emergency environmental concerns, including air quality testing.

What is MAML (Mobile Air Monitoring Laboratory) and how does it work?

The Mobile Air Monitoring Laboratory (MAML) is a specially equipped vehicle designed to monitor a number of substances and to provide the public with an immediate "snapshot" of the air quality of the location monitored. The vehicle is equipped with a variety of instruments that help the MAML team sample and monitor the air at any location around Alberta.

For more information and contacts visit Alberta Environment's Mobile Air Monitoring Laboratory (MAML) website.
