This report is designed to inform interested stakeholders of the 2006 results of the Specified Gas Reporting Program and to provide analysis of those results that are not provided elsewhere to Albertans. This report also includes analysis of national reported greenhouse gas emissions for the rest of Canada and the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory, which covers greenhouse gas emissions from more than just large industrial emitters.

This protocol is applicable to projects that involve the capture and destruction of methane produced from anaerobic wastewater treatment processes and take actions to prevent the venting of biogas to the atmosphere. These systems could be installed as retrofits or modifications to existing wastewater treatment operations or implemented at new Greenfield facilities as the best available control technology1. The feedstock to the anaerobic digestion system may be untreated industrial wastewater or sludge produced from other wastewater treatment processes at the project site.

This quantification protocol is written for the gas and/or oil operator or any operator in the oil and gas industry where natural gas is used to provide pressure for process control systems. Some familiarity with, or understanding of, the operation of gas and/or oil
operations and control systems is assumed.

This protocol is intended to be applied to hot mix facilities in the hot mix asphalt industry. The sulphur product being substituted for bitumen must be either a sulphur extender in the form of pellets or a similar solid sulphur product composed of carbon black, sulphur, and small quantities of plasticizer and H2S scavenger additives. The product may also contain wax additives, used to further reduce hot mix asphalt production and compaction temperatures. Note however that reduced hot mix asphalt production and compaction temperatures are anticipated for hot mix facilities using a sulphur extender without wax additives, and this protocol applies to hot mix facilities using either formulation of sulphur extender.

Co-generation is the combined production of heat for use in manufacturing processes and the production of electricity as a by-product. The following document has been developed to provide additional guidance regarding the treatment of cogeneration facilities under the Specified Gas Emitters Regulation (SGER).

The project condition is that of an aerobic landfill bioreactor. This protocol can be applied to exiting landfills or landfill cells that are retro-fitted to incorporate an aerobic landfill bioreactor, as well as to landfills for landfill cells that were originally designed and constructed to employ the use of aerobic landfill bioreactor technology.
